Non-league Football Previews
ANDY KEOGH has been put in charge of the first team as MOSSLEY ponder their future without Dave Wild who has left Seel Park to join Paul Phillips’s coaching staff at Matlock. Applications for the vacant manager’s post close tonight and the grapevine has been remarkably silent as to who the new boss might be. One man who could be in contention is John Flanagan, who has close links to the club which he briefly managed in 2010. He has kept a low profile since quitting as the Mossley number-two last November, although it’s believed he was interviewed for the Ashton United job after Jody Banim was sacked. Another name that has been mentioned is former boss Steve Halford who took the Lilywhites to the play-offs in 2013. Tomorrow (Saturday), Mossley face the long trip up to Gateshead to face Dunston in the BetVictor NPL first division north-west. The match will mark the final appearance of central defender Keil O’Brien who will be returning to Trafford at the end of his loan period. The dressing room at DROYLSDEN is starting to resemble a casualty clearing station. Seven players are out or doubtful for Marine’s visit to the Butchers Arms. Keano Deacon, Jack May, Tom Moore, Jack Kay, Kane Hickman, Rhys Clooney and Jamie Frost are all either ill or on the treatment table. Elliot Wynne, signed from Farsley Celtic at the start of the week, should keep his place in goal. Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison are hoping to make a couple of signings in time for GLOSSOP NORTH END's first division south-west match at Sheffield. Keenan Quansah, Will Hartshorne and Ali Sheriff all return to the squad. However, Scott Kay is suspended and Ryan Rogers has ankle injury. STALYBRIDGE CELTIC, who ended 2019 so well, travel to premier division bottom club Stafford still looking for their first win of 2020. They have taken only two points from a possible 21 since New Year’s Day and just one from the last four matches which were all at Bower Fold. Jonathan Ustabasi (knee) and Preston loanee Ethan Walker (ankle) are both injured while Chris Smalley and Scott Bakkor face late fitness tests. Celtic will also be without leading scorer Darius Osei who was sold to South Shields earlier this week. Young defender Billy Sass Davies should figure for ASHTON UNITED after signing on loan from Crewe Alexandra. Jono Hunt and Liam Tomsett are both suspended. Tuesday’s home match with Morpeth has been postponed and will be rearranged. The coming game with Hyde United will be played on Friday, February 21, rather than on the Saturday. Former manager Darren Kelly returns to Ewen Fields when he brings his Scarborough side to face HYDE UNITED. With Kyle Brownhill and Jack Dyche both banned, defenders James Nield and Jack McConville have been recalled from their dual registrations. Jaheim Headley should be fit after concussion. Stories that the Tigers have signed Preston striker Connor Simpson, who was with them on loan last season, are untrue. CURZON ASHTON have suffered a blow ahead of their home encounter with in-form Gateshead in National League North. Connor Dimaio has been recalled by Stockport County. The youngster has given some commanding performances in midfield and become a huge favourite with the Tameside Stadium fans. Liam Davies returns after injury but Tunde Bayode has yet to shake off a hamstring strain. |
