Hyde to celebrate 125th Anniversary with name change
Hyde United FC are delighted to announce an exciting new initiative to coincide with the Club’s celebration of our 125-year anniversary.
The Club can confirm we have made an application to revert our name to Hyde FC, the Club’s original name back in 1885. Whilst we are still awaiting ratification of our request from the Football Association, we hope to have their decision in July, ahead of the start of the new Blue Square Bet North campaign.
There is also a plan to incorporate the Club’s original colours of black and white in the new 2010/2011 playing strip, which will be launched in advance of the new season.
This season promises to be an exciting one for all of us. We want to celebrate our 125th Anniversary in style. The decision to revert our name back to Hyde will give us the chance to reflect on the year of our original formation in 1885.
There is a fantastic history associated with football in Hyde, and I’m sure our fans will be excited at some of the plans we have in place to help them celebrate our Anniversary at Ewen Fields.
There are a number of developments in the pipeline which will be revealed over the next few weeks. Supporters will begin to notice a significant number of improvements and uplift of facilities at Ewen Fields in time for next season.
Of course Hyde’s original colours weren’t black and white - that was the strip worn by Hyde United in the early 1920s. Back in the 1880s Hyde FC actually wore blue. Throughout its long history the club has never had a white kit as it did in 2010-11. Tangerine yes, but white no.
And to the best of my knowledge the exciting events to celebrate the 125th anniversary failed to materialise. I seem to recall an oversized badge few people wanted to buy, but little else.
It’s good to know that once the supporters’ trust is established it will never again be possible for one man to unilaterally sell off Hyde United’s heritage because he thinks it might get him a well-paid senior position at a Premier League club.
