CLUBS ought to have a chance of going into the first day of a new season with a full squad, but that may not be the case for HYDE UNITED who face fellow promoted side Basford at Ewen Fields tomorrow (Saturday) in the Evo-stik NPL premier division.
While it was known there was a question mark over Luke Porritt, who needed hospital treatment for a knock sustained in the Ray Stanley Shield clash with Skelmersdale, manager Darren Kelly now says there are also doubts over striker Tom Pratt and key midfielder Janni Lipka.
Over at STALYBRIDGE CELTIC, there is There is good news and bad news for new boss Simon Haworth as he prepares to take charge for the first time in tomorrow’s home opener against Mickleover Sports.
The good news is that he has secured loan deals for goalkeeper Jake Turner (Bolton Wanderers) and defender Scott Wilson (Burnley) and both go straight into the squad for the game.
However, the bad news is that he will be without the services of midfielder Glenn Rule and forward Luke Wall.
Both were signed from Welsh Premier League clubs (Rule from Bala, Wall from Bangor City) but neither has received the necessary international clearance to enable them to play. They are also unlikely to feature in Tuesday’s home match with Marine.
Howarth will hand debuts to at least eight new faces as Celtic look to bounce back from the traumas of last season.
In the first division west, MOSSLEY go to Chasetown, DROYLSDEN are home to Runcorn Linnets and GLOSSOP NORTH END entertain Atherton Collieries. All three clubs have radically changed their squads over the summer, making many signings.
New striker Alex Samizadeh should make his debut for CURZON ASHTON at York City in National League North. The 19-year-old, who was a junior at the Tameside Stadium four years ago, spent last season with Scottish Premier League club Kilmarnock.
Danny Deakin has received international clearance and is able to play. Striker Niall Cummins remains in the squad having made a brief reappearance from the bench in last week’s game with Hereford.
The Nash will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent away record having won at Alfreton on Tuesday thanks to Joe Guest’s late goal.
